Winner today in the Thai GP Sprint race, Enea Bastianini admitted that his performance in the race exceeded even his expectations. The plan outlined at the beginning worked out perfectly.
The Ducati rider analyzed his performance as follows: ‘The race was more than my expectations today, qualifying was beautiful but I didn’t expect to win today. I gave 100% of myself on the first lap and being alone on this track can be an advantage because you can brake much harder and also because of the tire temperature’.
Then the Beast talked about the strategy: ‘When I was in first place on the first corner, in my mind I thought: “Okay, you have to push in three or four laps to try to gain some distance”, and then there would also be some risks for doing that but in the end it was the right choice. In the end the difference during the race to those who followed was 1.3/1.4s, and it lasted until the end’.
If during qualifying he found something that helped him, the Italian clarified: ‘For the moment we found something, probably, because in qualifying we are always competitive, other times not as happened in Australia, but it was a bit disappointing but otherwise we have been competitive and also in the Sprint, but for the long race we will have more problems. We have to solve that in the three remaining races’.
