Enea Bastianini chose slick tyres to start the MotoGP GP of the Americas race – being one of the few to make the right choice for the conditions at the time.
The Red Bull KTM Tech3 rider ended up losing that advantage due to the whole situation that unfolded with bike swaps right before the start – which led to a delay in procedures.
After the race, Bastianini spoke about what happened: ‘For 20 seconds I was really happy, because I saw just two or three riders with the slicks. But not at the end. I saw all the riders coming inside’.
The Italian also said: ‘For the future, it could be right…. if 11 riders are coming inside, the procedure will start. But for the strategy probably is not correct, because you take risks. You think, «Ok, now I put the slicks on the wet». Because at that moment when we made the decision was a bit wet and we were lucky. But it’s like this’.
