The 2025 Dakar prologue marked Edgar Canet’s absolute debut. The Spaniard is competing in the event for the first time in his career and delivered a surprising performance, finishing third, just 12 seconds behind Daniel Sanders (Red Bull KTM).
The Red Bull KTM rider expressed his satisfaction in an interview with the official Dakar website, stating that he started with a good performance:
– I’m super happy to finish my first prologue on the Dakar Rally. It was a really good one, super fast like what I want and what I like. I didn’t get lost. and I caught somebody in front, I took a little bit of dust, but it’s good. For the moment, I think I’ve made a good job, so let’s see tomorrow for the first stage which is going to be longer than this.
As a newcomer, Canet is both particularly excited and aware that his goals need to be measured: ‘It’s completely a dream for me to be part of the team and able to be on the Dakar Rally. It’s my first Dakar, so this time it’s about knowing what the race is exactly and keep improving. Let’s see how it goes’.
