Ducati has introduced the V2 engine, the lightest twin-cylinder ever developed by the brand, weighing just 54.5 kg. This launch represents another step forward in Ducati’s long tradition of V-twin engines, which have given rise to some of the brand’s most iconic motorcycles and have accumulated more than 400 victories and 1000 podiums in competitions.
The new V2 engine integrates cutting-edge technologies, such as the IVT variable valve timing system and hollow intake valve stems, which enhance both efficiency and sports performance. This engine will be available in two configurations—120 hp and 115 hp—adapting to different driving styles and conditions.
With 890 cc and Euro 5+ certification, the V2 stands out for its compact and lightweight construction, elements that contribute to agile and dynamic handling. Additionally, Ducati has continued to refine reliability and maintenance efficiency. Valve clearance, for example, only requires checking every 30,000 km.
Power and Versatility
The 90° V configuration of the new V2 engine provides smooth, balanced power delivery, ensuring quick response at low revs and sporty performance at high revs. The choice of two versions – one focused on performance (120 hp) and the other more versatile (115 hp) – ensures broader adaptability across Ducati’s range, from city use to the track.
Engineering Focused on Efficiency and Aesthetics
The IVT variable timing system contributes to a linear and ready power delivery, automatically adjusting valve control based on engine speed and throttle opening. In parallel, Ducati has adopted several technical innovations that make the V2 highly efficient and aesthetically streamlined. The internal positioning of the water/oil heat exchanger, for example, allows the oil radiator to be eliminated, reducing weight and improving appearance.
Another highlight is the slipper clutch, inspired by the latest innovations from the Testastretta 11°, which eases control during downhill descents and improves stability during sudden braking. The gearbox is equipped with the Ducati Quick Shift 2.0 system, enabling fast, smooth shifts and optimizing the sport riding experience.
A New Benchmark for the Segment
This V-twin engine is set to redefine the balance between lightness and power, establishing a new standard in Ducati’s motorcycle engineering. With the new V2 engine, the brand reinforces its commitment to cutting-edge solutions that combine performance and innovation, remaining true to the sporting spirit that has always defined it.
