In the world of exclusive motorcycles, few models combine history, performance, and rarity like the Ducati 916 Senna MK3. Produced in 1998 as the final version of a special series limited to just 300 units, this bike pays tribute to the legendary Ayrton Senna. And now, one of these rare machines is available for sale.
The unit recently put on the market has British registration and an impeccable history. It has belonged to the same owner since 2008 and has only 4,900 km on the dashboard. It includes all the details that a true collector appreciates: a spare key, owner’s manual, service book, maintenance invoices, a paddock stand, and a bike cover. Additionally, for those who value limited-edition numbers, this particular bike is #135 in the series.
The story of this special edition dates back to 1994, when Ayrton Senna, a passionate motorcycle enthusiast, met with Claudio Castiglioni, then owner of Ducati. The Brazilian driver gave his approval to the project shortly before his tragic passing, making the 916 Senna a tribute with profound meaning. Three versions were born from this collaboration: MK1 (1995), MK2 (1997), and MK3 (1998), with this final iteration being the most refined of the series.
Its aesthetics are unmistakable: a black and grey color scheme with red accents, paired with high-performance components. Most importantly, the profits from these editions were donated to the Ayrton Senna Institute, reinforcing the humanitarian legacy of the three-time F1 champion.
Beneath its sharp, aggressive fairing, the Ducati 916 Senna MK3 houses a 90° V-twin 916cc engine, liquid-cooled, with electronic fuel injection and desmodromic valve timing. Developed at the legendary Cagiva Research Centre under the supervision of Massimo Tamburini and Sergio Robbiano, this power unit was derived from the Ducati 888 but featured substantial improvements. It delivered 114 hp at 9,000 rpm, allowing this machine to reach an impressive 257 km/h.
The unit for sale is being handled by the renowned British company The Bike Specialists and will be delivered with a full service, including fluid changes, new belts, and a recent technical inspection. As expected for such a rare model, the price reflects its exclusivity: £27,999 (approximately €32,500).
For many, this may seem like a steep investment. However, purchasing a Ducati 916 Senna MK3 is not just about buying a motorcycle—it’s about owning a piece of motorcycling history and preserving the legacy of one of the greatest drivers of all time.
