David Alonso reinforced his dominance in practice 1 of the Moto3 Italian GP. The rider had led the free practice session by over a second and now set a new Mugello lap record.
In the first nine minutes, the leadership changed hands constantly, with nine different riders taking the top spot for a while… until Alonso (CFMoto Valresa Aspar) set a lap that kept him at the top for about five minutes.
Then, the Colombian was overtaken by Luca Lunetta (SIC58 Squadra Corse/Honda), before surpassing him roughly ten minutes later. However, Alonso was quickly beaten by José Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) before Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) took the top spot.
In the last five minutes, Alonso made a sequence of two fast laps that led him to a new record: 1m54.671s. Veijer finished second, 0.536s behind. Ryusei Yamanaka (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM) performed well again with the third-fastest time, followed by Rueda and Lunetta, who completed the top five.
