David Alonso continued to show strong form by leading the final practice session of the Moto3 Aragon GP. After overnight rain, the track remained wet, meaning lap times did not improve compared to yesterday afternoon’s session.
The conditions gradually improved throughout the session, resulting in constant changes at the top of the timesheets, with 11 different riders holding the lead at some point.
However, the final part of the session was dominated by Alonso (CFMoto Gaviota Aspar), who took the lead and held onto it after 26 minutes had passed. The Colombian rider displaced David Almansa (Kopron Rivacold Snipers Team/Honda) and further improved on his next two laps, becoming the only rider to set a time in the 2m14s range.
Xabi Zurutuza (Red Bull KTM Ajo) finished second, 1.068s behind Alonso, followed by José Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) in third, Almansa in fourth, and Matteo Bertelle (Kopron Rivacold Snipers Team/Honda) completing the top five.
The combined timesheet was dictated by yesterday’s practice, where all riders set their fastest laps. Alonso topped the combined times, beating Rueda by 0.210s. Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GasGas Tech3) secured the last direct spot in the second phase of qualifying, finishing 14th, 0.386 seconds ahead of Nicolò Carraro (LevelUp-MTA/KTM).
