Valentino Rossi may not be racing anymore, but he continues to inspire generations of all ages, and David Alonso literally imitated the former rider with a celebration in his honor after winning the Australian GP in Moto3.
Alonso admitted that he didn’t have an easy weekend, especially mentally after being crowned Moto3 world champion: ‘I’m very happy because it wasn’t easy for me this weekend to maintain the intensity, the concentration after winning [the Moto3 world championship], but I told myself I had to be as focused as I was in Japan’.
And he explained the special celebration he had with the team today: ‘I wanted to have the same number of wins as Valentino Rossi and this [referring to the «mask»] is the same celebration that Rossi did when he won his 11th GP in 125cc, and I did the same celebration as him’.
And then he left a word of appreciation directly to the Italian icon: ‘Thank you very much Valentino for inspiring all of us, for growing and for putting MotoGP at this level, and this is for you’.
