Álvaro Bautista didn’t get off to a good start in the World Superbike Championship season. This Saturday at Phillip Island, the Aruba.it Ducati rider started from ninth in the first race and even managed to recover to the brink of the podium. However, he crashed on the fourth lap, compromising his chances. He still managed to earn a point with the 15th place finish.
The two-time Aruba.it Ducati champion lamented the outcome, admitting that he had the feeling he could fight for top positions until the crash compromised the result:
– It’s a shame. Despite a not excellent superpole, I got a very good start. Maybe it was the best start of my career. The feeling was good and I was convinced I could stay with the leading group. Unfortunately, I crashed but I made the most of the rest of the race, to prepare myself for tomorrow.
