CFMOTO has been very busy in the months leading up to EICMA 2023. So far, four teasers have been released, and initial predictions were that the four posts referred to three different motorcycles. However, it seems that previous predictions may not have been entirely correct, based on what appear to be recently leaked photos, as well as a new video of the 450 MT posted by CFMOTO France.
What appears to be a reveal of promotional photos has been circulating on social media. In the official CFMOTO teasers released earlier, it is clear that the MTX will have dual disc brakes. In contrast, these new leaked images show only one disc. Based on this evidence, it seems likely that the MTX Concept and the 450 MT are two different models.
So, what can we expect from the MTX Concept? On one hand, some experts and rumor enthusiasts have suggested that the MTX will be equipped with Yamaha’s CP2 engine. This idea has some merit, given that CFMOTO and Yamaha have recently established a production agreement.
On the other hand, and perhaps more plausibly, the 800 MT could be used as the base for this concept, which would mean that the 799 cc LC8C derived from KTM would be the engine of choice.
If CFMoto chooses the Yamaha power unit, we are looking at a twin-cylinder engine with about 62 hp and 57.6 Nm of torque. If CFMOTO opts for the KTM engine, it will have 95 hp and 86.9 Nm of torque.
At this point, either of the engines could be suitable for the ADV model, although it seems more likely that the Chinese manufacturer will choose the KTM engine. After all, it is a low-cost product, since the 800 MT already exists.
There are also some rumors about a larger displacement model to be presented at this year’s EICMA, although nothing is confirmed at this time. Since it is a conceptual model, the brand may be testing interest in a new variant of the 800 MT, or perhaps something more geared towards off-road riding than road trips.
