Australian freestyle motocross star, two-time X Games medalist and proud member of the Nitro Circus, Jayden “Jayo” Archer, died following an accident during training on Wednesday, February 21, 2024. He was 27 years old.
Known internationally as one of only three riders to successfully complete a triple backflip on his bike in competition, this trick was allegedly being practiced when the accident occurred. He was the first rider to achieve this trick and was also reportedly working on perfecting a quadruple backflip for a future event.
Landing the triple backflip for the first time in front of everyone gathered at the Nitro World Games in Brisbane, Australia, in November 2022, was an experience like no other, Archer said at the time.
Speaking to ESPN: “I can’t describe this feeling. This is much more than a trick for me. I’ve dedicated my entire life over the last three years to this moment. There have been many obstacles, broken bones and eliminations, and I would do it 100 times over to relive this moment again.” Shortly after reaching this high point in his career, he immediately proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Beth King, and they will be engaged at the end of 2024.
Nitro Circus confirmed Archer’s death in an Instagram post that reads: “The Nitro Circus family is mourning the loss of Jayo Archer. Jayo epitomized passion, hard work and determination. He took what was possible on a dirt bike to heights never seen before. A positive influence on those around him. And, above all, a great human being and friend to us all. We at Motociclismo Magazine send our deepest condolences to Archer’s family, friends and fans around the world during this difficult time.
