Alonso López set the pace on the first day of the Portuguese Moto2 Grand Prix. The timed session this afternoon in Portimão had much better conditions than the morning free practice, making it the session where the best times emerged.
Fermín Aldeguer (Beta Tools SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) was the first to complete a flying lap, but after most of the riders had their first lap times recorded, it was Manuel González (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex) leading the pack. The Spaniard, who was fastest in the free practice, reinforced his position on the following lap and stayed at the top for about 25 minutes… until he was dethroned by Aldeguer.
However, the future Ducati MotoGP rider held the position for only about a minute before being vertaken again by González. He was then passed by Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex), but seconds later López lapped in 1m42.362s.
This remained the best lap of the session, so the #21 finished at the top. Arón Canet (Fantic Racing/Kalex) also surpassed Roberts, coming in just 0.013s behind López. González was fourth, while Marcos Ramírez (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex) concluded in fifth ahead of Aldeguer.
