The Moto2 Aragon GP kicked off with Alonso López setting the fastest time in this morning’s free practice session at MotorLand Aragón. The lap times improved by nearly five seconds from the start to the end of the session.
The SpeedUp team showed strong form early on, with their riders López and Fermín Aldeguer taking turns at the top of the timesheets until they were overtaken by Diogo Moreira (Italtrans Racing Team/Kalex). The Brazilian briefly held the lead before being beaten by Manuel González (QJMotor Gresini/Kalex).
González kept the lead for almost nine minutes before Jake Dixon (CFMoto Inde Aspar/Kalex) took over, only to lose the position to Aldeguer about seven minutes later. Several riders then took turns leading the timesheets in the subsequent minutes.
Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo/Kalex), Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex), and López all topped the timesheets at various points during this phase, until López clocked the fastest lap of 1m51.657s with less than two minutes remaining. This lap put him 0.297s ahead of Arbolino. González finished third, 0.383s behind, and unlike the top two, did not break into the 1m51s range.
Öncü and Joe Roberts (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex) completed the top five ahead of Aldeguer. The championship leader, Sergio García (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro), had a quiet session, finishing only 26th.
