The upcoming Italian GP will be the second race for Aleix Espargaró since announcing his retirement from MotoGP at the end of the season. Last Sunday, he came close to the podium at the Catalan GP, finishing fourth after winning the Sprint race.
This was his home race, and now he heads to the home GP of his team, Aprilia. Therefore, Mugello holds particular significance for Espargaró once more.
In a pre-race press release, the Spaniard highlighted the importance of this race. His goal for the Italian GP is clear – to regain good sensations and fight for the podium positions again:
– I had said at the beginning of the season that these two weekends were extremely important for me. Barcelona and Mugello are two of the best Grand Prix rounds of the season, at home for me and at home for Aprilia. I’m hoping to find that same good feeling I had with the bike in Barcelona and to battle for the podium in Mugello. I can’t wait.
