Bad weather is once again hitting regions of Spain this Monday, and now it is the area of Barcelona that has been heavily affected – after the intention to hold the last round of the MotoGP season at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya was announced yesterday.
The disaster is far from having the proportions of the one that affected Valencia last week, but the images coming from Barcelona through social media are impressive: El Prat Airport (about 39 km from the Catalan race track) was flooded, there are impassable roads, and submerged cars.
The wife of football player Robert Lewandowski shared videos of the floods on social media, which affected the couple’s residence in the municipality of Castelldefels – just under 50 km from the circuit and close to Dorna’s offices.

The question arises: with increasing pressure on emergency services and several towns dealing with damage and affected people, could the last MotoGP GP of the season stop being held in Spain – with a reversal of the intentions for it to be held in Barcelona as Carlos Ezpeleta announced this Sunday?
For now, there is no official position from Dorna, which had not yet confirmed 100 percent that the event would take place in Barcelona – everything depended on the response of the Catalonia regional government.
The specialized journalist Simon Patterson wrote on X: ‘Spain’s weather emergency continues. […]. The conversation about whether racing anywhere att all in Spain (with the pressure emergy services are under) might yet need to be revisited if this continues’.
In response to a follower who asked about alternatives, the Brit wrote: ‘Qatar is impossible, because of cost. Portimão, I presume, is the easiest. But Dorna will try everything to make Barcelona work’.
