In a surprising turn of events, Adrián Fernández was the fastest rider on Friday at the Moto3 San Marino GP. During the first practice session this afternoon, the rider even set a new lap record for the category at Misano.
The Leopard Racing rider led after the first flying laps, but the top position saw frequent changes in the first 12 minutes. Ángel Piqueras (Leopard Racing/Honda) was the first to hold the lead for a longer period.
However, less than six minutes later, Piqueras was overtaken by David Alonso (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar), who stayed at the top for about 15 minutes until being beaten by José Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo). Shortly after, Fernández set the new Misano record with a lap of 1m40.909s.
Rueda managed to improve his time, entering the 1m40s range but falling short by 0.076s. Alonso finished in third, followed by Piqueras and Luca Lunetta (SIC58 Squadra Corse/Honda), completing the top five ahead of Iván Ortolá (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM).
