Enea Bastianini finished the Sprint race at Mugello early. The Italian rider, in a fierce fight with Jorge Martín, was hit in turn 1 of the Italian circuit and was unable to keep his bike under control and ended up crashing.
In a debrief, the Italian rider spoke about the incident that led to his crash and which involved Jorge Martín.
– I would say the situation is a little bit on the limit. It depends on the view. But for me it’s been aggressive in the contact. I was in the front and I received a big impact. I can’t do anything. In general I’m very happy because the feeling, the sensation with the bike was really cool. I was enjoying it a lot and it was possible to try to win. Pecco was really fast but…You know, me on the first lap always, I have to bring a little bit of confidence. And well, when I see Jorge a little bit on the limit, I bring him into season two, overtaking my game. And well, I don’t know what was possible to do, but…Nothing, we will try again tomorrow. Maybe yes, maybe yes also because I have felt less position compared to the last start. Because usually I start very well but after I lose some position. This time I was in the same place and…I hope to do the same tomorrow because it will be perfect.
Asked if he had spoken to the stewards and the race direction following the incident with Jorge Martín, Enea replied: ‘Well, I can go to the stewards but it’s not my… I’m fresh. It’s not my first thing now. My first thing is to try to be like this tomorrow because of my riding style, sensation in the back was incredible and I want to see and I want to fight for the victory. I hope for the future to have something to explain with him and my objective is to bring the decision together not only when alone, when he was alone, no? And also the team can do nothing.
