Aleix Espargaró is having a grand farewell at the Catalan GP as a MotoGP rider. The Aprilia man not only secured pole position but also won the Sprint race, benefiting from Francesco Bagnaia’s (Ducati) crash ahead of him on the last lap.
In the official broadcast interview, the rider began by describing what this round has been like for him so far: ‘It has been amazing in the last two days; it’s like a fairytale, I have no words to describe!’.
About the Sprint race itself, Espargaró stated: ‘The race was very tough. The track was super slippery and I lost the front a couple of times. But when I saw the lap times they were doing, I was completely sure that was impossible to finish with that pace. And in fact the people started to crash. I just tried to keep the pace, try to keep the rear tyre, for the last laps’.
Seeing the risks Bagnaia was taking, the Spaniard tried to keep the pressure on until the end, which paid off, as he mentioned: ‘Pecco was doing great as well, but he was risking, so my goal was to push him until the last corner and it worked. I’m very happy’.
