Aleix Espargaró continued to demonstrate his strong form by leading the second free practice session (FP2) of the Catalan GP for MotoGP, solidifying his position as a top contender for pole position in the upcoming qualifying session.
At the start of the session, Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati) initially took the lead, followed by Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha) and Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac/Ducati). Aleix Espargaró (Aprilia) then moved to the front, pushing Martín down to eighth in the second round of flying laps before Martín climbed back to third.
For several minutes, the top positions remained stable, with Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) closely trailing Espargaró by just 0.012s. At that time, Pedro Acosta (Red Bull GasGas Tech3/KTM) and Raúl Fernández (Trackhouse Racing/Aprilia) were also in the top five.
The standings changed 17 minutes before the end when Morbidelli moved into third place. This top three remained unchanged, with Espargaró leading the session, followed by Bagnaia and Morbidelli in third.
Martín finished in fourth, Acosta in fifth, and Oliveira (Trackhouse Racing) placed the second-best Aprilia in sixth position. Quartararo concluded the session in seventh place.
