On Thursday, Aleix Espargaró is holding an exceptional press conference before the Catalan GP of MotoGP. While the topic of the conference remains unknown, it could potentially be the announcement of his retirement – which, if true, would open up a spot on Aprilia’s factory team.
Miguel Oliveira, who currently rides for Trackhouse Racing, is considered one of the potential candidates for this vacancy. When asked about his situation with the Noale manufacturer, he answered: ‘I see a good future for me in Aprilia. It’s true that they have prioritized their factory riders first, and that seems very logical from a managing point of view. Let’s see what happens after this, but as I told you I’m very relaxed about my future’.
While Oliveira prefers to stay with Aprilia, he acknowledged the current uncertainty in the situation: ‘It’s always nicer to continue with a bike that you know than to change. But at this point everyone is winking to everyone until someone gets the girl first out of the discoteque. So until the first one makes the first move and takes the girl home, everyone else is still dancing and buying drinks to everyone else’.
Using this peculiar analogy, Oliveira highlighted that he is still exploring his options: ‘I’ve to buy drinks to everyone at this moment. I didn’t get the girl yet’.
