Like it or not, China is a reference point for innovation in the world of electric mobility. We’ve seen a lot of new electric models – both two-wheeled and four-wheeled – coming out of China, and there’s no sign of it slowing down. For example, an interesting new electric motorcycle has just been unveiled and, if you’ll forgive the weird name and the fact that it’s made in China, it’s really quite interesting.
It’s called the Earth Eagle KL4500 and it’s a retro-style electric bike with a very interesting design. It features a single-sided swingarm – which isn’t necessarily a novelty, since even small scooters have this feature. However, its front end is really interesting, as it uses a telescopic fork on one side and an inverted fork on the right.
Interestingly, the Earth Eagle KL4500 is offered in two variations, with one of them being marketed in Europe under the name Leonart Rigger. This bike features a similar retro-inspired scrambler design, but has a conventional inverted fork, as opposed to the strange single-sided fork of the model we found in China.
As far as performance is concerned, the Earth Eagle KL4500 has a motor with a maximum output of 10 kilowatts (around 13.6 hp). This gives it a top speed of 100 km/h. These performance figures are similar to those of a 125 cc gasoline model, making it an affordable option for novice riders looking for a fun urban vehicle. Its battery consists of a 72-volt, 50 amp-hour unit that offers 120 km of range on a single charge.
The Earth Eagle KL4500 has 17-inch cast aluminum wheels with 110/80 and 150/60 tires at the front and rear, respectively. The front and rear disc brakes, without ABS, allow the bike to be stopped by opting for a combined braking system (CBS) similar to that of scooters. Pertinent riding information can be viewed via the large digital screen and there is also a small luggage compartment for carrying everyday essentials.
The price of the Earth Eagle KL4500 has not yet been announced, although in Europe – particularly Spain – the Leonart Rigger has a starting price of €5,499. Leonart Motors also has stores in other European countries, such as Portugal, France and Germany.
