Marc Marquez doesn’t see any chance of Honda winning at the next GP in Australia. The reason? The difference with the most competitive bikes today, which he sees as «long» seconds away.
Given his record at Phillip Island, Marquez was asked if this could be the last chance to win at the helm of the Honda: ‘Winning here is difficult. It’s going to be difficult, we can’t currently approach any race with the thought that we can win it because we’re far away: we’re not one, two, three seconds behind the leader, we’re 7 to 10 seconds off the best race’.
The former world champion went on to clarify that this is not a track, unlike some, where Honda has a better chance of prevailing over the competition: ‘We can’t think about winning here, Buriram or Valencia, which are the three best tracks, because in Malaysia and Qatar we’re going to suffer a lot, and in these three we might suffer less, but it’s not the right approach, to think about winning’.
The last time Marquez won at Phillip Island was in 2019, the last season he won the World Championship and before his injury ordeal began… as well as Honda itself.
