Daniel Holgado closed Friday as the fastest rider on the opening day of the Valencia GP in Moto3. Almost all riders set their best lap times in this second session, although it was interrupted twice with red flags.
At the session’s start, Deniz Öncü (Red Bull KTM Ajo) led ahead of David Alonso (Valresa GasGas Aspar) and Diogo Moreira (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM). Öncü maintained his position, while Alonso slipped to second place behind Holgado (Red Bull KTM Tech3). Later, Ayumu Sasaki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) surpassed the Spanish rider.
With Öncü comfortably ahead, Alonso reclaimed second place, pushing Holgado down to third, and Joel Kelso (CFMoto Racing PrüstelGP) rose to fourth. However, Öncü’s heavy highside at turn four led to a red flag, freezing the order at that point.
Even out of action, Öncü kept the lead when the session resumed. Sasaki closed in within the last 15 minutes but remained 0.231s behind. Alonso had a significant incident at turn four and required some care.
Kelso improved with ten minutes remaining, climbing to second, swapping positions with Veijer. Holgado secured second in the last five minutes before surpassing Öncü by 0.266s. Shortly after, a crash involving Alonso and Sasaki at turn 11 prompted another red flag.
Although the session restarted, there wasn’t enough time to change the standings. Holgado led by 0.266s ahead of Öncü, with Kelso in third. Adrián Fernández (Leopard Racing/Honda) and Ivan Ortolá (Angeluss MTA Team/KTM) completed the top five, ahead of the champion Jaume Masiá (Leopard Racing/Honda).
