Thanks to the new concessions system in MotoGP, Yamaha will have several privileges to develop its bike in 2024 – that they might lose throughout the year depending on their results.
Nevertheless, it’s an initiative to help the recovery against European manufacturers, particularly Ducati. Lin Jarvis, Yamaha’s managing director, emphasized the importance of concessions, stating as quoted in SPEEDWEEK.com:
– Unfortunately, they are very important for us. If we want to take a step forward again, we need more opportunities for testing. Next year, we’ll only have two riders. The tests will help us, providing us more freedom. We can use more engines and also change specifications during the season.
Despite Ducati’s current superiority, Jarvis believes that concessions for Honda and Yamaha might make it more difficult for Aprilia and KTM: ‘If Yamaha and Honda benefit from these concessions, it will certainly be more difficult for these two factories. Therefore, I understand. However, they should not forget that Yamaha and Honda also agreed at the time that there should be concessions for the new manufacturers’.
