Jorge Martin was one of the riders, if not the rider who stood out the most this season in MotoGP but not always for the best reason. If on one hand he showed an absolute capacity to recover ground to Pecco Bagnaia, he also had a couple of moments that ended up messing his title run, he believes.
The spaniard began by saying, after what he lived in 2023, with a wish: ‘Hopefully, next season I improve, I learn and I can enjoy from the first race’, before speaking of some of the moments that ended up being crucial for him not to take the championship, with two races and rounds in mind:
– Well, I would say not just one race – maybe two. I would say maybe Indonesia and Australia, which were races where the balance changed from leading by I think 30 points to being back by 27.
He then admitted he is to blame and maybe being overly confident: ‘I think that was the point. Maybe being too good at that point gave me overconfidence and I said: «Ok, I can go away with five seconds, I can win with another tyre, I can win with whatever I want»’. We are in MotoGP and you cannot do this. You have to be really conscious of where you are and try to be always with the same tools as your rivals’.
The championship was, remember, decided in the very last race of the season, with Bagnaia taking his second world title, the second in a row.
