A new system of concessions in MotoGP was recently announced, categorizing manufacturers into tiers based on their results and performance. At present, Honda and Yamaha are positioned in the tier with more benefits in terms of bike development.
The concept isn’t universally accepted, but one of the personalities in the paddock who agrees is Aleix Espargaró. The Aprilia rider emphasized to SPEEDWEEK.com the Japanese manufacturers are needed and the fairness of granting concessions now that they are experiencing a rough patch in their sporting performance:
– Absolutely. They agreed to grant concessions to Aprilia back then, and that’s why we are where we are today. That’s the reality. We had some advantages and took advantage of them. And now, we’re competing on equal terms. It’s clear to me that we have to accept that they should now receive concessions as well. We need Yamaha and Honda.
