MotoGP bikes are faster than ever, and the data makes it evident: in the 2023 season, new lap records were set at 15 of the 20 circuits where the championship took place.
The trend began right at the first round in Portugal, with Marc Márquez (Repsol Honda) setting the record at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in 1m37.226s. The year ended similarly at the Valencia GP, where Maverick Viñales (Aprilia) set the Circuit Ricardo Tormo’s record at 1m28.931s.
Only five tracks did not witness a new record in 2023: Jerez, Le Mans, Termas de Río Hondo, Sachsenring, and Silverstone. Ducati dominated significantly, setting 13 out of the 15 new lap records, with Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) and Jorge Martín (Pramac/Ducati) being the riders with the most record times – four each.
