Toprak Razgatlioglu has, on more than one occasion, been tipped for MotoGP but has opted to stay in Superbikes, and with a surprising change of team. If the fact that the Turkish rider has stayed on has made Gregorio Lavilla happy, the truth is that the head of the championship is equally worried: not for the rider itself, but for one specific rider.
In an interview with Motosan.es, Lavilla was asked about Razgatlioglu’s preference to stay in WSBK despite the harassment from MotoGP, and he replied without hiding some fear of what might lie ahead, given that of the Titanic Trio, only one has remained in his team, and that’s the champion, Alvaro Bautista: ‘There’s no need to fool ourselves. I’m worried about how it’s going to go next year, because otherwise it could be monotonous, in the sense that of the three riders there is only one rider who stays with the same team and the same bike’.
Keeping the former world champion is a reason to be happy, and I want him to perform well, without forgetting the added value and competitiveness that the organisation has worked hard to increase:
– I want Toprak to stay and do at least what he did with Yamaha. I hope that, after what it’s taken for us to get this far, they can do their job. Besides, they’ve put all the ingredients in place and now they have a lot at stake. Perhaps less so the riders, because they’ve already proved their worth.
