Aprilia was the surprise of 2022 in MotoGP, finally fighting for some podiums and victories – especially with Aleix Espargaró. Although not consistently finishing in those positions, they achieved them again last year, also with Maverick Viñales, but the results fell somewhat short of expectations. Loris Reggiani, who represented Aprilia for several seasons in the former 250cc and 500cc classes, spoke about the expectations he has for the upcoming season.
Quoted by Motosan.es, the former rider argued that the Noale manufacturer could not be much different from 2023: ‘From my point of view, the role of Aprilia is destined to continue as it was last season, which, although it’s not good to say, was a bit below 2022 when there was a long belief that Espargaró would try to win the World Championship’.
In Reggiani’s understanding, Aprilia does not have a riders issue: ‘Many argue that it’s also a matter of riders, that Aleix and Viñales are not suitable for aspiring to the title, but I think that’s not the reality. For me, it’s quite clear – just like Ducati is the best bike compared to Aprilia – and this is shown by the fact that, on and off the track, all their riders are always fast’.
