Jonathan Rea has had an extensive career in the World Superbike Championship, including six titles. This year, he moves to Pata Yamaha and, despite embarking on a new chapter in his career, doesn’t see himself in action for much longer.
Speaking to SPEEDWEEK.com, the British rider assured that retirement isn’t on his mind yet: ‘I won’t retire as long as I feel competitive and enjoy it. I haven’t thought about retiring yet, and I’m looking forward to my time with Yamaha’.
That said, Rea emphasized that he doesn’t want to stay in WSBK for much longer, also considering the young talents: ‘I’m not saying this will be my last contract, but I don’t want to be here in five years. I’ve been in the paddock since I was 21. In 2009, I joined the World Superbike Championship. If I’m still here at 40, please someone tell me to make room for young riders. There are many fast riders coming up. When the time to leave comes, it comes’.
