Pedro Acosta has been showing speed and consistency since the MotoGP shakedown in Sepang. Despite taking his first steps in the premier class, he’s already making an impression on his team, Red Bull GasGas Tech3, as evident from the words of his chief mechanic, Paul Trevathan.
Speaking to the championship’s official website, the engineer didn’t hold back in praising the rookie’s rapid learning curve: ‘What can I say? We all expected a steep learning curve, but he impresses me with what he has been able to achieve in a such short time. He is trying to find his limits, trying to understand what makes the little tricks to go faster. He’s very open to take aboard information, he’s very keen to try different things. […]. At the moment he is just going through that learning curve, finding the limits of different things and trying different ways of doing things. One time you try one way, one time you try another way’.
Trevathan even revealed that, sometimes, Acosta outpaces the team: ‘He is doing all himself. We are supporting him, we are showing him using our experience to try and help to speed up the process. But sometimes he’s a bit faster than us. It’s impressive’.
