With the benefit of development concessions, Honda has radically changed its MotoGP bike for 2024. The manufacturer seeks to regain the path to success, taking steps in that direction.
When asked about the major change in the new RC213V, team director Alberto Puig explained: ‘The bike has changed a lot. To give you an idea, to reduce weight on the bike, you have to redesign many things, many parts of the bike, because they were there for a reason and suddenly you decide to remove them. So, the remodeling work on the bike was very comprehensive and in a very short time. In terms of the engine, everything was redesigned internally, which is also very difficult. Sometimes it’s easier to make a new engine from scratch than to improve one you already have. So, a lot of work had to be done on the bike’.
Although the differences are already significant, Puig promised that the Honda bike will evolve even further throughout 2024: ‘Obviously, this is the prototype we have now, and throughout the season we will evolve and develop it. That is one of the bases we have, and probably this bike you see now versus the one in September/October, there will have been some significant evolutions that we need and we will seek by working and developing the bike’.
