After finishing third last year, Marco Bezzecchi started the 2024 MotoGP season in a frustrating and distant position from the front. He finished the main race of the Qatar GP in 14th place, never having the means to fight for higher positions.
The rider from the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team explained that he is not able to reach the level that the other riders with the Ducati Desmosedici GP23 have: ‘I’m looking of course at the top riders, but also the Márquez brothers and also my teammate; they have the same spec as me. And they were able to ride quite faster than me through all the weekend, through time attacks, through race pace. So I’m trying to focus on them, I’m trying to look at the data, understand why I’m missing some speed. The problem is that I’m not able to do what they are doing at the moment’.
Bezzecchi then specified his problems: ‘I have no confidence in the front to release the brakes, the bike is not turning. Because of this I lose corner speed, I open the throttle late or I go too slow inside the corner because if not the bike is not turning, so I open the throttle very early. But I finish the tyre. I’m struggling a little bit, but I’m also working a lot, so I will arrive. It’s a bit frustrating, but also motivating’.
