Jorge Martín secured his first MotoGP victory of the season at the Portuguese Grand Prix. The Prima Pramac rider quickly took the lead and never looked back, although he did not build a significant gap over his opponents.
The result, combined with Francesco Bagnaia’s retirement (Ducati), propelled the Spaniard to the top of the championship standings for the first time after a Grand Prix. If there were any doubts about a possible title challenge for the second consecutive year, these seem to be dispelled already.
Sito Pons spoke to Moto.it’s YouTube channel about the Portuguese Grand Prix, praising the winner: ‘Martín did a perfect job and put himself in the lead of the race’, he said.
The former team owner has no doubts that the 2023 runner-up will once again be in contention for the title, highlighting his approach and level of confidence: ‘He will be fighting for the championship […]. He is aggressive, decisive, doesn’t make many mistakes, and above all, he has a confidence that makes the difference compared to others. It is very important for him to have that self-confidence because it keeps you always there’.
