The Moto3 Spanish Grand Prix kicked off with David Alonso setting the best time in Friday’s free practice session. The Colombian was the only one to break into the 1m44s this morning.
Although it was Alonso (CFMoto Gaviota Aspar) who set the first timed lap, after the initial laps, the leader was Adrián Fernández (Leopard Racing/Honda). Over the first 12 minutes, the lead changed hands constantly, with Alonso returning to the top at various moments.
Ryusei Yamanaka (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM) and Joel Kelso (BOE Motorsports/KTM) also took turns leading. With almost a quarter of an hour completed, Alonso took the lead and never looked back. However, he still improved his time three more times. He clocked two laps in the 1m44s, ultimately finishing with the best time of 1m44.590s.
David Muñoz (BOE Motorsports/KTM) finished second, 1.079s behind. Fernández came in third, while the top five was rounded out by Kelso and Iván Ortolá (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM). Championship leader Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GasGas Tech3) set the 12th fastest time. Still recovering from a surgery performed two weeks ago, José Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo) is in the official entry list but did not take to the track in this session.
