Repsol Honda is going through a challenging period in terms of results, with the performance crisis seemingly endless. However, Luca Marini was pleased with what was found in last week’s Jerez test and ensured that everything is on the right track despite being a difficult process that takes time.
Regarding the Jerez test, the Italian said there were small advances: ‘It was nothing huge, but I think there was a small improvement. We just need to put everything together, all the new parts that are better, trying to have it in the less time as possible, and try to mix everything for a new bike in the best way. I think all the engineers are doing a good job. We are following the good direction, but we just need a little bit of time’.
Despite the apparent improvements found, Marini explained that he won’t be able to use them at the French GP: ‘This weekend not yet, because it’s too early. After Le Mans we will go to Mugello also to try again everything. I hope to try also something new. All the positive things in Jerez, if they are also positive in Mugello, for sure they will be on the bike in the next races. We just need a little bit more time and focus today on this weekend because it will be also another opportunity to improve my feeling with the bike and the performance. The weather will be great, so let’s enjoy this weekend because also there are a lot of fans, the atmosphere is incredible’.
The #10 also said: ‘Now I’m trying to work in the best way to improve the feeling of this season, to improve our performance. Because I think we are doing a great job, but we started from so far and now we are getting closer with very small steps. But it’s normal, it’s not so easy’.
