In 2027, MotoGP will have new technical regulations, which are still being finalized and not fully known. One thing is certain: the engine will change, likely to have a smaller displacement.
BMW has been mentioned as a possible new manufacturer under the future rules. However, despite considering participation in the category, they have not had any say in the future regulations. This was stated by BMW Motorrad director, Marc Bongers, to Motorsport-total.com: ‘No. Not possible at all‘.
The MSMA, manufacturers’ association, has statutes that do not allow non-participating manufacturers in MotoGP to have an active voice in the rule-making process. However, according to the BMW representative, this does not mean an absence from discussions:
– You are allowed to participate in MSMA meetings if you make a public declaration of intent. You can be there, but in this case, you do not have the right to vote. It is only when you are an active participant in the championship that you obtain the right to vote.
Either way, Bongers clarified that BMW would have nothing to add: ‘To be honest, we would not have any input at this time because we are not participating. It is only in the marketing area that we could actually express our desires. But when it comes to technology, you have to be immersed in the subject in order to be able to evaluate properly‘.
