In 2027, MotoGP will have new technical regulations, which are still being finalized and not fully known. One thing is certain: the engine will change, likely to have a smaller displacement.

BMW has been considered a possible new manufacturer under the future rules. However, despite considering participation in the category, it had no say in the future regulations. This was stated by BMW Motorrad director, Marc Bongers, to Motorsport-total.com: ‘No. It's not possible at all’.

The MSMA, the manufacturers' association, has statutes that do not allow non-participating manufacturers in MotoGP to have an active voice in the rule-making process. However, according to BMW's representative, this does not mean an absence from discussions:

– You are allowed to participate in MSMA meetings if you publicly declare your intentions. You can be there, but in this case, you do not have the right to vote. It's only when you are an active participant in the championship that you gain the right to vote.

In any case, Bongers clarified that BMW would not have anything to add: ‘To be honest, we wouldn't have any input at this point because we're not participating. It's only in the marketing area that we could actually express our wishes. But when it comes to technology, you have to be immersed in the subject to be able to evaluate properly’.
