Jorge Martín counts Aleix Espargaró as one of his closest friends, and their strong bond has remained intact even as they compete together in MotoGP – growing even stronger.
The 2024 world champion, who now occupies Espargaró’s seat at Aprilia, highlighted on the podcast Tengo un plan just how crucial Espargaró has been to him, providing support throughout the years:
– He was essential as well. I met him when I joined the Rookies, and I was like a godson to him. He always looked out for me, lent me bikes to train, and I would spend a week in Andorra. He always helped me. And when I moved to Andorra, he became like an older brother. I can go to his house for dinner anytime I’m alone.
Last year, Martín fought for the title until the very end, and he recalled Espargaró’s unwavering support: ‘We don’t see each other every day, but I talk to him every day as if he were family. Throughout 2024, I felt his support, but in Montmeló, it was incredible! The race he did there, defending against Enea [Bastianini], was crazy! And I will be forever grateful to Aleix’.
