Tosha Schareina’s crash early in stage 9 of the 2025 Dakar set him back significantly, losing over three minutes to Daniel Sanders (Red Bull KTM), who remains at the top of the general standings.
The Australian was unable to fully capitalize on the situation. He faced his own navigation challenges, which slowed him down, and he finished the stage in third place, 3m04s behind the fastest rider.
Sanders witnessed the crash and commented to the official Dakar website: ‘I saw he had a crash at the check point, he said he was okay. But any crash in a rally is a big one. Hopefully he’s okay’.
The Dakar leader admitted missing a key opportunity to extend his lead: ‘It’s just important for me to stay focused on what I’m doing. You can’t just lose concentration and lose a couple of minutes here. I lost a bit of time today, I could have pushed and made some more. I was just trying to focus on what I was doing, and I still messed up. I lost a good opportunity to make some time’.
