This year, the Dakar Rally featured only one female rider at the start: Sandra Gómez Cantero, part of Fantic’s factory team competing in the Rally2 class.
In the Rally2 classification, the Spaniard holds 34th place, 7h50m21s behind leader Edgar Canet (Red Bull KTM), while in the overall standings, she is in 51st, 09h00m05s adrift of leader Daniel Sanders (Red Bull KTM).
Cantero’s performance has shown consistent improvement since the prologue. Starting in 65th, she has steadily climbed the rankings, competing among the top 60 fastest riders in the motorcycle category.
Her best result so far came yesterday in the fifth stage, where she finished 47th. This moved her into the 51st position she currently holds – continuing her daily climb in the overall standings.
