MT Helmets-MSi has become one of the leading teams in Moto3 and Moto2, where they helped Ai Ogura claim the title last year. MotoGP is part of the future ambitions of team owner, Teo Martín.
The businessman, who has vast experience in motorsport, confirmed on the PecinoGP YouTube channel that he has the goal of making the jump to the top category and there was even an opportunity… but it didn’t come at the right time:
– I said I could have entered, yes, that’s true. It was an offer, but it was a small percentage. It was about joining a team, but I think it wasn’t the right moment. We were in Moto3, fighting to move up to Moto2. I think everything has to happen at the right time. [Paolo] Ciabatti called me for a coffee, we are very good friends. And he told me it was a pleasure for him because we need to take it slow. But of course, I would love to, it’s the goal.
That being said, Martín reiterated that he remains interested in MotoGP, even though securing spots is difficult: ‘At the time, I told Dorna that if there was an opportunity to enter MotoGP, I would want it, and if it meant leaving other categories, I would do it. But doing everything at once, I think it’s difficult. I dropped it, and they told me that MotoGP at the moment is tough. That BMW could enter, but not Kawasaki. We believe that something could come up in the future’.
