AO Racing is gearing up for a bold 2025 campaign as defending IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTD PRO champions, with Laurin Heinrich leading the charge in the iconic No. 77 Porsche 911 GT3 R—affectionately nicknamed “Rexy.” Porsche star Klaus Bachler joins full-time, while factory ace Alessio Picariello bolsters the endurance rounds lineup, setting the stage for another thrilling season.
Building on a Dream Debut Season
AO Racing stunned the paddock in their first year in GTD PRO, clinching the 2024 championship and collecting three standout victories, including one with Porsche legend Michael Christensen at Indianapolis. Heinrich and his rotating cast of co-drivers brought consistency and pace to the competition, while the team earned the Michelin All Hands Award for their unparalleled pit efficiency.
Team principal Gunnar Jeannette is optimistic about the team’s 2025 prospects, citing the strong driver lineup and Porsche’s expertise as key factors.
“Winning the championship in our first year still feels surreal,” said Jeannette. “Laurin showcased his speed in Rexy throughout 2024, and with Klaus and Alessio joining, we’re confident we’ve got a top-tier lineup. The new torque sensor regulations will be a challenge, but Porsche’s experience gives us a solid foundation.”
Heinrich: Aiming for the “Big Ones”
Heinrich returns to AO Racing eager to defend his title and notch a career-defining win at one of endurance racing’s crown jewels: Daytona, Sebring, or Petit Le Mans.
“After clinching the 2024 title, I’m thrilled to be back with AO and Rexy,” Heinrich said. “Klaus and Alessio are incredibly talented, and I’m confident we can fight for more trophies. My personal goal is to win one of the big ones this season.”
Bachler: Back Full-Time in IMSA
Bachler, no stranger to IMSA competition, reunites with the series after impressive stints in the Asian Le Mans Series and past appearances with Pfaff Motorsports. The Austrian driver’s return brings invaluable experience and an eagerness to push AO Racing to new heights.
“I’m truly excited to be back in IMSA, especially with such a strong team,” Bachler said. “Laurin and Alessio are fast and intelligent teammates, and I’m confident we can achieve great things together.”
Picariello: Completing a Winning Formula
Factory Porsche driver Picariello rounds out the endurance lineup, embracing the opportunity to race with AO and the now-iconic Rexy.
“It’s a privilege to join AO Racing and this talented team,” said Picariello. “I’m looking forward to the challenge of the endurance races and contributing to the fight for the big trophies.”
Eyes on Daytona and Beyond
The 2025 season kicks off with the prestigious Rolex 24 At Daytona on January 23-26, following the Roar Before the 24 test weekend on January 17-19. With momentum from a championship-winning debut and a reinforced driver lineup, AO Racing and Rexy are poised for another electrifying season in the GTD PRO class. Fans and competitors alike will be watching closely as the reigning champs aim to cement their legacy.
