With MotoGP and many other motorcycle racing disciplines in the middle of their off-season, Yamaha is heading back to the racetrack this weekend – but in car racing.
The new Formula E season kicks off in São Paulo, Brazil, marking the debut of the Lola Yamaha ABT team. This venture signifies Yamaha’s return to top-level car racing.
The power train was developed in collaboration between Lola and Yamaha, though the race car itself is standard – the Gen3 Evo, manufactured by Spark Racing Technology, that will make its debut in the new season.
Historically, Yamaha participated in Formula 1 as an engine supplier for various teams, achieving two podium finishes in 116 races. Now, in Formula E, Yamaha’s partnership with Lola will field two drivers: the experienced Lucas di Grassi and rookie Zane Maloney.
