Joan Mir expressed disappointment that Repsol Honda did not introduce a new bike during the MotoGP test in Barcelona last Tuesday. However, the manufacturer doesn’t seem concerned about this.
Team Director Alberto Puig explained to DAZN that bringing a completely new RC213V for this test wouldn’t have been logical, considering that various updates and tests were already carried out throughout the year:
– The 2025 prototype is built when you have something more or less ready to test. We have been doing things throughout the year, and since we tested so much, it didn’t make sense to bring it here. Last year, we didn’t have concessions, so we were waiting all year to bring a new bike to this test. But this year, with the concessions, we tested a lot of things. So, it didn’t make much sense to bring a new bike here when we’ve already had new bikes all year.
When asked whether the extensive testing helped or led Honda in the wrong directions, Puig replied: ‘Tests always help, as is logical. It’s true that sometimes they can lead you down the wrong path, but you discard or choose, and that’s decisive. But, as with everything, you can make mistakes, and maybe one rider sees it one way, and another sees it another. But that happens to everyone’.
