For the first time in MotoGP history, a rider could win ten or more races in a single season and not become champion. Francesco Bagnaia is on the verge of achieving this unusual statistic.
With just one round left in the season, the Ducati rider is 24 points behind championship leader Jorge Martín (Prima Pramac/Ducati) – mainly because he has lost significant points in the Sprint races, which have been a strength for the Spanish rider.
After his victory in the Malaysian GP – where he had to retire from the Sprint race due to a crash – Bagnaia admitted to DAZN that something needs to improve, considering his season trajectory:
– Every time I’m missing something; I can’t attack, keep up with the rider in front, and I need to understand that because, in the end, that’s where we lost all those points. When you win ten races and are still 24 points behind, you know you have to improve something.
