The fight for the MotoGP World Championship is in full swing and promises at least two more rounds of hard fighting and excitement, and Marco Melandri still believes that Pecco Bagnaia can make it three. However, he has “advised” his compatriot to attack, although he admits that he would like to see Jorge Martín celebrate the title.
Despite admitting that he expects Pecco to win, Melandri confessed to having a personal desire to see Martín as champion, as he explained to Gazzetta dello Sport, quoted by Motosan: ‘On the one hand, I trust Pecco. But at the same time, I’d love Martín to win, just to put an end to the idea that the official team should win. Lenovo invests more than Prima; they can’t afford to lose. And Monster, Ducati’s sponsor, wouldn’t accept a rider sponsored by Red Bull winning either’.
Referring to Bagnaia’s delicate situation in the World Championship, Melandri warned the Ducati rider, and made it clear what the #1’s approach should be, while in the opposite direction Martín has the most difficult weeks of his life ahead of him, he believes:
– Bagnaia can no longer be second; he has to attack. If everything is decided in Valencia, he’ll be in a vulnerable position, like ‘in the mouth of the lion’. Bagnaia seems to have everything planned out and he’s keeping his cool, but for Martín these will be the most important weeks of his life; I don’t know if he’ll ever get another chance like this again.
