Jorge Martín finished the MotoGP Thai GP in second place behind Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati), losing only five points to his rival in a race marked by challenging rainy conditions.
The Prima Pramac rider expressed his satisfaction in the post-race press conference, saying: ‘I was much happier than on Saturday. For sure, I’m usually not really happy on Saturday, because I’m focusing on the race – I mean, the weekend is Saturday and Sunday, so you can’t be happy about Saturday’.
For Martín, the limited points lost to Bagnaia make for a positive takeaway from the Buriram round: ‘I was really focused on Sunday. I think the challenge to finish on the podium was really big, so losing only one position to Pecco was really good, and I was super happy’.
The championship leader even viewed Sunday’s race in Thailand as a kind of exam, which gave him a boost of confidence: ‘Maybe a relief. There was a lot of focus during the race. I think it was like a big final exam, because to finish in these conditions, battling for a championship, taking so much risk, I think it was great, and it gives me more and more confidence for the future’.
