Marc Márquez once again pushed the limits today in the long race of the Thai Grand Prix and, due to “just” 1.5 degrees more lean angle, he ended up on the ground. He was planning to attack the race leader and with 13 laps to go, he saw the opportunity vanish when he crashed.
‘We were the fastest today but now […]. It’s true that it was very difficult because I couldn’t overtake [Pecco] Bagnaia cleanly, because I was always planning a clean overtake’ began the Gresini Racing rider.
Márquez explained that a small, minimal error was enough to send him to the ground: ‘I had the speed and I would have had more opportunities. I was always trying to push, to attack but it wasn’t possible again due to the front tire. On the second attack I saw that I was much faster and I tried not to give up, I followed him but with 1.5 degrees more [lean angle] I lost the front and couldn’t save it, I was very close but that’s it. We’re human, we make mistakes and today it was my turn’.
If turn 12 was the only place to overtake him, the Spaniard didn’t hesitate: ‘Yes, because at all the other braking points I arrived too late, too far back, and in that turn 12 we were coming from a slow corner and that’s where I had the best feeling and I was catching him a lot. On that lap I was planning, thinking already about the last corner to attack well but it didn’t happen’.
And he concluded: ‘I was always planning the best way to overtake. A bit in the wet and but also a lot in the dry the tendency was the same but in that sector 1 and 2 I was losing a lot, but in 3 and 4 I was faster than him. A bit like yesterday but today it was more difficult’.
