Jorge Martín continues to take solid steps in the championship lead and today in the Sprint race, even without winning, he finished ahead of his biggest rival for the title, Pecco Bagnaia. Aleix Espargaró, who has the championship leader as his best friend, heaped praise on his compatriot, while also making some predictions about the future outcome of the duo fighting for the world title.
The experienced Aprilia rider, Aleix Espargaró, today paid glowing tributes to the performance of the Pramac Racing rider, quoted by Motosan: ‘He’s spectacular, very confident in himself, he went for it, even with a complicated start, he’s being very fast and very sure of himself’.
The Catalan rider also underlined the strategic importance of the result for the championship: ‘Today he adds more in the sense of them, they are more points than Pecco, but after the performance that Pecco did, his exit where he finished fifth… You have to have very clear ideas to do the race he did, you have to have spectacular self-confidence’.
When asked about the mathematical projections of the championship and the possibility of Martín consistently securing second places, Espargaró seemed skeptical, as well as looking at the results that Bagnaia will have until the end of the year, he believes: ‘He’s not going to finish second in all of them, nor will Pecco win them all. I don’t quite understand this data that they put on TV for all the races, and if Pecco crashes in the next two he can finish fifth, I don’t quite understand’.
